This lampshade draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese woodworking technique of 'Kanna,' which uses a specialized hand plane to create a smooth and even surface on the wood.

The design started with a single, thin sheet of handcrafted Japanese wood. This sheet was then shaped into an intricate geometric form, which showcases the natural grains and colours of the wood in a unique way that interacts with light.
